Cluster Headaches And Magnesium – A Possible Treatment

Until this day there isn’t an effective treatment for cluster headaches, but there are a few options you should consider for pain relief. One of those options is magnesium. Now, I hear you asking, what do cluster headaches and magnesium have to do with each other. Well, let’s find out.

It is proven that a lot of people who suffer from cluster headaches have a low magnesium level. It’s not yet proven that the low level of magnesium causes cluster headaches, or that it is low because of the cluster headaches. What we do know is that, when we are in an active period, the number of attacks and the strenght of the attacks is less when we take a magnesium supplement.

When you have cluster headaches and you want to try this kind of treatment you should consult your doctor to get a blood test. Ask him to check your magnesiumlevels and if they are indeed lower than they should be, ask him for the supplements you need. Don’t start this treatment (or any treatment) without consulting your doctor. Keep in mind that, when you take magnesium supplements you will need to take a vitamin B supplement and a calcium supplement too. You can find supplements that hold these three together, so if you find one of those, you can choose to take just one supplement instead of three.

Cluster headaches and magnesium are related, although we don’t yet understand at what level. In most cases, when you start this treatment, you will notice a decrease in the number of your attacks. And after a while the attacks you do have, will be not that painful. It won’t stop the attacks altogether, but it helps to get on with your life while you are in an active period.
