I have suffered from "Cluster" headaches as did my Aunt and Mother she died in 1994, 3 months later mine started.Dr. put me on Imitrex, that worked great as long as I caught at the "very" start but I only was allowed 9 for a month, well I was gong threw those in 2 wks sometimes a week ! I tried everything from not what to eat to coffee and asprins every 2 hrs when i had a headache, well I have got to see a Nero on 2/07/12 he has me taking 500mg magnezium oxygen on the first sign of a cluster headache, but I do the oxygen for 10 mins once a day, also he has me taking Verapamil ER120mg which is a high blood pressure, not really taking those as i have low BP normally. Well it has been 11 days and I have only had the very little start of a cluster headache compare to last month everyday just about the same time everyday, with no breaks until these last 11 days I can not tell you how relieved I am !!

ASK YOUR DOCTOR FOR 'SUMAVEL' IS A NEEDLE FREE DELIVERY SYSTEM(INJECTOR) AND 'ALSUMA' ALSO A AUTO INJECTOR W/ A VERY SMALL NEEDLE. I WAS INTRODUCED TWO BOTH OF THESE INJECTORS LAST YEAR (42YRS) W/CLUSTERS. THEY BOTH STOP A CLUSTER WITH IN MINUTES AND THATS THE TRUTH. I NEVER GO ANYWHERE W/OUT HAVING ONE WITH ME. I WAITED 42 YEARS FOR SOMETHING THAT WOULD STOP A CLUSTER (NOT A CURE) ON A DIME. BESIDES THE REGULAR MEDS THAT I TAKE DURING MY CYCLES. IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO WRITE ME, STEVE

I was recently watching the National Geographic Channel, one of their episodes included a man who suffered from CH. Although illegal in the US, he was actually growing his own hallucinogenic mushrooms. He stated that w/o them he would probably have committed suicide from the pain of his ch's. Didn't catch where he got them from, but you can probably google the episode. It was about hallucinogenic drugs. Hey, I'm not advocating the use of illegal drugs, but this is pain I don't wish on my worst enemy. You can go to other countries for this treatment--LEGALLY! Wishing you all a pain free life & happiness.

I'm in my mid fifties now, but as a child (8yo thru 13 yo), parents not able to afford Dr. i suffered ch. W/o medicine, I would lie on my stomach, both arms 90 degrees perpendicular to my body, I would then take a deep breath and hold it while arching my back, upturning my chin so that the base of my skull rested between my shoulders on my back, feet together, toes pointed as if diving, straight out. I would lift my arms straight out (like crucifixion), my belly acting as a fulcrum for the rest of my body (picture a "swan dive" from a diving board). I would hold my breath as long as I could (this would intensify the pain and throbbing, if you can believe that possible, but its the truth). Once out of breath (the pain and throbbing more intense now), I would rest for maybe 10 seconds (this is a very intense exercise, especially when in pain) and repeat the exercise between 5 and 6 more times. The throbbing and pain would subside and I would fall asleep or pass out (don't know which),waking feeling refreshed and pain free.
I've only had maybe 5 or six ch's since then, spaced years apart from each other and used the same technique (It's all I know, and it works for me). Be prepared for the increase in pain, but don't stop the exercise as this will just leave you in more pain. This may be ill advised by a Dr., I don't know, I've never shared it with anyone until now, and it does require some physical exertion.
Not being medically trained, I can see where this exercise might be similar to yoga and other breathing exercises in the above posts, and what Terry Anderson says he saw on Dr, Oz. Thats where my ch's generally started, in the neck then to one side of the head. I do hope this may help someone, it may just be a last resort if nothing else works.

I suffer from cluster headache and my doctors are not able to assist. When it comes, my belly rumbles and the pain ratchets up into a crescendo, making me restless and agitated.

I feel that oily foods, alcohol, cigarettes and starchy foods are my main triggers. Dust, Air conditioning, and Fans also trigger my headaches.

Surely, there must be a solution in this day and age. This is a condition you would not wish for your worst enemy.

My God!!! I knew there were many more people out there suffering from a wrecked life like I am but this is CRAZY!!! Christopher (and the rest of you) I feel each and every bit of your pain. I didn't know a person could go through this kind of pain and continue to exist. I dont believe in suicide...or at least I didnt at 1 point but My LORD something has got to give. I'm 42 yrs old and living in my mother's basement. A once great career has been derailed because employers tend to frown on employees that have to take 2 or 3 months off every year to year and a half because sunlight sets off a complete meltdown. Listening to you fellow suffers I consider myself one of the luckest people on the planet. If mine were chronic I really dont think I'd be here anymore. I couldnt take it. When I felt the 1st one this year I just wanted to cry for a week straight because I knew what the next 3 months were going to be like. I dont have insurance but I swear that I am going to try that oxygen treatment on the next episode if I have to sell azz to get it. Imitrex and everything else I've tried is useless. Sometimes an ice pack helps on the side of my head...Sometimes regulating my sleep with sleeping pills and alcohol helps and (this is disgusting but I'm being REAL) sometimes straining to take a BM helps...But you cant just take a dump...you have to act like your constipated and trying to push out food you ate last week. For real...try to push like you are taking a dump right now...see how you feel presure in your head...Well I have done that while having a CH and it made it less intense or even go away. I'm just trying 2 share...I have been having these since I was 19 and I'm 42 now. The only think I havent tried was oxygen...And I assure you...thats next!

I have had clusters since 1987. Same Results with standard meds as most of you. Latest bout started in Sept. Up all night 7-10s. Just after Christmas I was at my wits end. My Dr was out of the office untill today. His on call would not give me more trexmed or steroids.
He did give me some sample packs of Cambia( diclofenac potassium ) Its new( my pharmacy did not stock it) has knocked it down to 1-4s the first day I tried it. Must be on a empty stomach and the same each day. Skip a day and you are back where you were
. Good luck my friends
