Today I came accross an article on possible cluster headache treatment. Nine studies, involving 201 participants, led scientists to the conclusion that migraine sufferers may find relief from hyperbaric oxygen treatment. In English this means: inhaling pure oxygen at high pressure in a special chamber.
These studies also concluded that people who are suffering from cluster headaches may benefit from normobaric oxygen treatment, or the inhaling of pure oxygen at normal room pressure.
Michael Bennet, head reviewer and director of the Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia, believes that hyperbaric oxygen could also be a reasonable measure for migraineurs who have not responded to other measures. The only problem for this oxygen treatment is the poor availability of hyperbaric chambers.
Concerning cluster headaches, the studies showed that patients had relief from cluster headaches after 15 minutes of normobaric therapy.
